Questions about Indian Remy Hair

What is Indian hair?

Hair that has been grown by a woman in India. The country name usually refers to the origin of the donor. Indian hair is great because it comes in a variety of textures everything from straight to curly. The hair strand diameter is smaller than Chinese hair and thicker than Malaysian hair. All of these attributes leave the hair easy to blend and provides for a natural look across ethnicities.
Make sure that the hair you order also contains the words 100% and Remy, this will ensure the hair is long lasting and virtually tangle free. Lush Hair is just that, you can rest easy in knowing that we are providing a quality product that you can wear with pride.

What is Virgin hair?

Virgin hair is unprocessed human hair. This hair has never undergone a chemical process.

What is Remy cuticle hair?

Remy (Cuticle) hair is the highest-grade human hair available. This hair has been collected from one donor and has been cut, washed, sewn, and delivered with special care to keep all the cuticles aligned and going in the same direction. This is important for several reasons. When the cuticles are left in tact the hair is able to maintain the protective layer that allows moisture to easily be absorbed. This allows the hair to be virtually tangle free, have a natural long lasting healthy appearance, and the hair moves. Beauty Supply Store hair has been known to sit in clumps on the back of your neck or move stiffly all together as a lump. Lush hair literally blows in the wind just as your own hair does. All of this adds up to a more natural, long lasting, and full of body weave.

What are the different types of weft construction?

There are two types of weft construction, Machine wefts and Hand Tied wefts. We currently have a wide selection of Machine made wefts. Hand- tied wefts are hair strands that are sewn together by hand. We will hopefully be adding Hand-tied wefts as a product offering in Fall ’09. If you would like to be notified of when this product is added please joining our mailing list. See the link above.

What is a machine made weft?

Machine made wefts are the most commonly made weft style. Machine wefts are made by sewing strands of hair together with a hair sewing machine. This style of weft can be cut for installation. And our Lush Hair wefts are thin and very comfortable to wear. Please check out our wide selection.

What are hand-tied wefts?

Hand- tied wefts are hair strands that are sewn together by hand. This can be done in either an 8 thread or 3 thread (micro weft) methods. Hand tied wefts reduce bulkiness and provide for a very flat weave. It is recommended that they be folded over as opposed to cut, and if they are cute please apply a sealant to reduce shedding. We will be adding Hand-tied wefts as a product offering in Fall ’09. If you would like to be notified of when this product is added please joining our mailing list. See link above.

How is the hair length measured?

The straight hair is measured in its natural state. The wavy or curly hair is measured when stretched. With the wavy or curly textures it tends to appear 2” shorter when worn in its natural state, so 12” will appear as 10”.

Can the hair extensions be dyed?

Yes, all of our hair products can be colored. We highly recommend a color strand test on a small portion of hair to see how your new color will look.

Will the hair look exactly like the hair in the picture?

Since the hair is grown by a donor there will be slight variations in color and texture between each bundle and between the hairs in the pictures. The pictures are meant to give you an idea of what to expect with the different textures we offer.

How much hair is needed for a weave?

The amount of hair required depends on the look you want. Here is a simplified guide:
Hair Length Added Fullness Full Head Very Full Hair Style or Large Head
10-16 inches 4 oz 8 oz 10 oz
18-22 inches 6-8 oz 10-12 oz 12- 14 oz

What is Single Drawn Hair?

A bundle of hair that contains strands of similar lengths. The very short hairs have been removed. For example: a hair piece of 10" to 12" inches of Remy quality and single drawn has hair lengths of 10", 11", and 12". This provides for a very realistic look, as not all hairs on a human head are exactly the same length. Lush Hair is Single Drawn.

What is Double Drawn Hair?

A bundle of hair where all the strands are the exact same length, for example: a hair piece of 16” double drawn has hair strands the length of 16" only. There are no shorter lengths of hair present. This creates an unrealistic yet beautiful polished look. This process is generally performed on Non-Remy hair.

What is the best way to cut a weft?

With machine wefts, you may cut where desired. It is important to note that you should never sew through top of the weft. It is recommended you sew around the weft. This will keep the weft stronger and will help keep the shedding to a minimum.

What type of hair care products should I use?

Treat this hair like your own hair. Use good quality shampoo and conditioning products. Conditioning your hair is very important to keep it soft and manageable, so use leave in conditioners. You can also use products like gel and hair spray to keep the curls in place, but make sure to wash your hair and not leave in these products in for a long time.

Do I have to do anything special at night?

It is always good practice to wrap or cover the hair at night. However, as long as you do not sleep with the hair wet you should be ok. Sleeping on wet hair is known to matte hair and produce tangles.

Can I go swimming?

Yes. It is a good idea to apply a conditioner to the hair before swimming.

How long does it last?

This hair can last for a very long time depending on how you maintain it. The better you treat the hair, the longer it last.
